a loud silence
a loud silence
the intention of my audiovisual installation was to depict how solitude can facilitate a heightened sensitivity in spatial awareness. solitude imposes an individual to become observant therefore altering the perception of the environment visually as well as audibly. the photographs were captured as i was wandering through the forest alone. i have had experiences in the past, particularly when hiking in Georgia, that led me to become consumed in the enfolding environment as i was enduring physical fatigue and strain. i find myself distracting my mind from exhaustion by hyper fixating on the visual and audible nuances of my environment, fostering a meditative presence. in that solitude, the landscape reveals itself, what seems tranquil at a glance holds depths of untamed resonance, and in the absence of human noise, the voice of the forest becomes overwhelmingly alive.
for the installation, i screen printed the images onto aluminium sheets to visually interpret the shifting perception. as light falls upon the metal surface, reflections on the aluminium emerge through the photographs, implying the notion of an ever-altering environment. the interplay of printed image and reflected light invites the viewer to become aware not only of what they perceive, but of how their presence and movement transforms the work itself. accompanying the visuals is an evolving soundscape, the field recordings from the forest are gradually layered and intensified, emerging from the subtle rustle of leaves and chirping of birds to an overwhelming sonic progression that evokes a meditative state escalating to sensory excess.
